My daughter has just turned 6 and for her party we took a small group of her friends to the Cinema to see The Princess and the Frog.
In between toilet trips (and there were plenty), I thought the film was brilliant. Not just because the music was fab, the princess was black (a first for Disney), and I was stuffing a load of popcorn and chocolate down my neck in the dark where no one could see me, but at last a Princess who wasn't all about being saved by her Prince! The main moral of the film was that hard work is what leads to success.
Move over WAGS and girls who are lining up to sleep with a footballer to earn a quick buck, or Jordan-a-likes, who get a boob job and see it as a career move.
Here was a princess who worked three jobs to follow her dream of opening her own restaurant.
I only hope the 6 year old was paying attention, because currently her favourite thing is dancing naked in front of the mirror.
Let's just hope Stringfellows is closed down by 2022...

I am definately taking my two princessess to see this.
My three year old has spent the last week calling me 'Queen' and not responding to anything I call her except Princess Belle (not her name)which at first is charming but after some time.....
Hilarious! The dancing-naked-in-front-of-the-mirror thing does eventually wear off when they get to about 10!
I wonder if my boys would like the film too? (They quite like stuff with tomboy-ish girls, like Dora.) Don't worry, boys dance around naked too; and I'm not worried they'll become Chippendales yet!
My, my hasn't Disney moved on. Good for them and I do hope the 6 year olds remember the morale of the story even if they might not understand it yet.

Haha. That's too funny. Let's hope it's wearing off.
Now that's better. I was reading Cinderella to my son today. The Prince sees her, thinks wow she's beautiful, I'll marry her. Come on now. What about her mind Prince Charming?? And, as for her - just cause he's a Prince she says yes... I think I'm gonna get me down to the flicks to see this one!
ohh pleased to hear a good review. I was pondering going to see this in the week. Mich x
A princess with 3 jobs? I never realised life could get so tough for royalty. Did someone steal her palace?
Thanks for the comments. Boys will love it too as there is a nasty man, crocodile, great bugs, my husband loved it! Plenty of humour in it for the adults too. An enjoyable couple of hours.
Mummmmmmmeeeeee - I am glad the naked dancing wears off. I mentioned it to someone else and they looked at me like I was a complete weirdo.
Natasha - My eldest went through that stage too. Now she dances naked. Count your blessings...
Gorilla Bananas. I love your name.
don't worry, my Son dances around naked too... yesterday he even got half way to doing it in the street on the way home from school!
I usually avoid the Disney "cheesefests" if poss but may give into this one :) my 5 yr old little boy still likes striping off and dancing !
Ha ha ha! Sounds like my daughter who likes to dance around half naked shouting "shake ma booty!" - I don't know where she gets it from? ;)
I'm taking her to see the film today. Hope I enjoy it as much as you (although I'll be eating Ben & Jerry's with extra polar bears!)
Popped back to say I loved it! Classic Disney in the style of 'Lion King'. Lovely animation, great music (Randy Newman) and an engaging story. I too applaud the moral and hope daughter took it on board. Still shaking her booty, though!
Hurray ! Decent princess role model (AT LAST !)
About time Disney! And what do you mean? Is it wrong to dance naked in front of the mirror?? *slinks off to put some clothes on*
she'll be way past it by 2022, let's aim for 2020 and cross a lot of fingers.
ps word veri is dinali, a strong case of it is needed
Brilliant post, love it and couldn't agree more. Especially with more and more single mums out there it's NEEDED to see positive 'how to make it work for yourself' role models for girls and women, because knights in shining amour can be known to bugger off after the shine on several things has worn off!!
Thanks,
Amelia.x
Yes,
I have had the naked girl and boy dancing in front of mirrors.
I think I was the last to buy that style of wardrobe in 1998. lol.
Mia loved that film - I'm afraid I was a bit tired and may have nodded off in parts....
We went to see this last week and loved it.... Def one of the better Disney princess films and I loved Tiana's accent....
